Or you choose to spend more on a luxury hotel because you need to escape from your every day as much as possible or you would like to experience a “once in the lifetime” luxury because you deserve it?

In any case, you will find a suitable place to stay in Budapest.

Checking the prices, you will soon realize that Budapest is a bit more affordable city than its Western European counterparts.

Hotel prices, restaurants, and activities are somewhat cheaper which means you probably will get more for your money here than elsewhere in Europe.

But still, it’s all about balancing with the options and knowing what’s going to suit you best.

In Budapest, commercial properties are the most commonly rented accommodations.

There has been a boom on the real estate market that affected the number of quality accommodations, too.

Maverick city lodge

Maverick city lodge is a modern, warehouse-style hostel in the Jewish quarter, which means that if you stay here, you will be right in the middle of the party district. Ideal for those who would like to experience the nightlife of Budapest.

The Lodge has three floors of dorms and private rooms and it is decorated with white wood, bold colors.

Each bed has a locker to keep your valuables in safety, you’ll have a curtain at your bed and reading light.

Common areas are clean and well equipped.

Maverick hostel

Maverick hostel is located near Váci street in a renovated royal mansion. They have private rooms and dorms, too.

Maverick Apartments

Maverick Apartments is right in the city center at Ferenciek Square. They also have reception desk services. Apartment range is from 20 m2 for 2 guests to 80 m2 for up to 6 people.

Shantee House

Shantee House is a colorful hostel that was the first hostel in Budapest. It is ideal for young couples or group of friends.

The house is not in the center, but it is close to one of the main roads of Buda, Bartók Béla út. The area is full of cute shops and cafes and very walkable.

On Bartók Béla út you can also hop on some of the main bus lines, such as bus 7 that takes you to downtown in about 15 minutes. You will not have any problem with transportation.

The house itself is a peaceful spot in Buda with its garden that has bamboos, a miniature pond, and hammocks.

There are different types of rooms to fulfill everyone’s needs: shared rooms, private rooms and even a Mongolian Yurt in the garden.

The hostel’s atmosphere will make you feel at home at an affordable price.

Wombats City Hostel Budapest

Right opposite Gozsdu courtyard, this hostel is perfect if you would like to enjoy the nightlife of Budapest. There are many cafés, bars, restaurants in the area. Also, it is right in the city center. Everything is easily accessible from this accommodation.

Pal’s Hostel & Apartments

Pal’s Hostel is not just a hostel but a chain of apartments around St Stephen’s Square, right at the heart of Budapest.

They offer dorm beds and private rooms as well as complete apartments.

The reception and lobby are in the middle of them. It serves also as a meeting point for travelers.

This hostel is ideal for couples, groups of friends and for those who like to make new friendships while traveling.

D8 Hotel

This hotel is a bit pricier, but still a good deal. It is a new, 3-star lifestyle hotel run by Continental Group.

Its location is unbeatable, literally just a few steps away from the Chain Bridge and Váci street, the downtown shopping street. Hotels in this area are usually very expensive.

It has 121 modern bedrooms and a huge lobby that functions as a social hub you can chill with other travelers.

Hotel SasOne

This 3 star hotel is located right in the middle of the downtown area, at Erzsebet Square, just 200 m away from St. Stephen’s Basilica. From here the most of the city’s main sights are easily walkable. There are many bars, restaurants in its direct neighborhood. The rooms are air-conditioned, and have a modern design.

House Beletage

This is a cozy little Bed&Breakfast hotel.

It is located in the Palace District (do not mistake it for the Castle District, that is on the Buda side while Palace District is on the Pest side).

This House could mix old and new in a very natural way. It is a nice little oasis in this big city. It also has a quiet little terrace.

The House has no restaurant but continental breakfast is there for you every morning so you can fill yourself up before you start exploring the city.

La Prima Fashion Hotel

This hotel is right in the city center, a few meters away from the main shopping street, Váci Utca. It has 80 – rather small – rooms. For a few nights, it can be perfect especially if you plan to spend the day walking around the city.

It also serves continental breakfast.

Bohem Art Hotel

This hotel is located downtown, just a few minutes away from Ferenciek Square and the Danube. It is very easy to walk anywhere from here. Public transportation also steps away.

The Hotel offers a rich buffet breakfast (included in the price of the room), free coffee and tea in the bar.

The rooms have no view – or a view into people’s backyards (the later can be nice, in my opinion).

Maison Bistro Hotel

A charming, lovely little hotel in a quiet street of the Castle District, a short walk away from the Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church.

The Maison dates back to 1464, so it has witnessed the storms of the history of Buda. It has already been a bakery, then a popular nightclub and now it is a hotel that has a two-story cellar.

It has 17 individually designed rooms, tiled stoves, and graceful furniture.

It serves traditional Hungarian food and wines.

Best for those who are not interested in the parties of the Pest side.

7Seasons Apartments Budapest

Clean, comfortable studio apartments in a central location.

Palazzo Zichy

The hotel is situated right in the middle of the Palace District. The building of the hotel itself is also from the 19th century.

The building was a mansion built for the famous Hungarian noble, Count Nándor Zichy. It was transformed into a four-star hotel in 2009.

It has 80 well-equipped contemporary style rooms.

Prestige Hotel Budapest

This one is also a classy, new hotel that offers fine dining in downtown.

The location of the hotel is super, it lays in a quiet just a few steps away from the Danube and the promenade.

The building itself is a renewed 19th-century mansion designed by József Hild (he was the one who – besides many other buildings – designed the first, original version of St. Stephens Basilica)

Budapest Marriott Hotel

This hotel is huge. I mean: enormous. It has 364 rooms (so you could sleep in a different hotel room in almost every day of a year 🙂 ).

The location could not be better: it is right in the middle of downtown, on the Danube Promenade.

The rooms offer extraordinary views to the river, the Castle District, the hills of Buda. The rooms have been refurbished in 2018 with the latest design.

It also has an all-day restaurant with a show kitchen.

Hilton Budapest

The Hilton in the Castle District has uniquely combined historical remains into its modern architecture. Several portions of a 13th-century Dominican monastery have become integral parts of the hotel.

The rooms are big and comfy and many of the offer beautiful panoramic view of the city, the Danube and the riverbank of Pest.

It has 298 rooms and 23 suites.

This hotel is perfect for those who like comfort, calmness and are more interested in a nice walk after dinner on the emptied streets of the Castle District than parties of Pest side.

Casati Budapest

Housed in an 18th-century building, the adult-only Casati Budapest Hotel is a boutique hotel located in the historic Terézváros District of Budapest.

It won the 2015 Hotel of The Year Award, with it’s 25 uniquely designed and spacious rooms, wellness facilities, generous buffet breakfast, and mindful personal service.

It is also ranked among the most romantic hotels in Budapest on Tripadvisor.

It provides a relaxing atmosphere, especially for couples.

Its decoration has 4 different themes: Classic, Cool, Natural and Heaven.

It has a wellness facility and an award-winning Bar.

Parliament Penthouse Budapest Bed and Breakfast

Luxurious, bed and breakfast boutique hotel right next to the Parliament with a breathtaking view from the panorama rooftop.

There many restaurants and cafes are in the immediate neighborhood.

Brody House

One of the hidden gems of the Palace District is Brody House, built in 1896, now operates as a boutique hotel.

Kapital Inn

The hotel is situated on the penthouse floor of an elegant 19th-century building in the heart of the 6th district.

Please note that because of the age of the building, the hotel does not have an elevator, but the staff is ready to help.

It has a 600 square foot private terrace and the price includes the served breakfast, too.

The Inn is right next to Andrássy út, only minutes walk from the Millennium subway.

Boutique Hotel Budapest

This middle sized hotel is situated very close to the Great Market Hall and the Váci street.

Váci street has two parts: one is full of fashion shops and starts from Vörösmarty square, ends at Ferenciek square.

The other part stretches between Ferenciek square and Fővám square (this is where the Market Hall is).

The hotel is a few steps away from this peaceful section of Váci street. This section is full of restaurants, but have a look at the menus and prices before entering one and avoid those that use aggressive salesmen in front of them.

The hotel itself offers comfort and has a modern style that is common among international boutique hotels.

Each of the 74 rooms has simple but warm style.

The buffet breakfast includes both international and Hungarian specialties.

Art’otel Budapest

The hotel has great views of the Danube and the Parliament from the Buda side river bank.

It takes about half an hour to get to the main sights of Pest downtown.

The hotel shows the quirky artworks of contemporary artist, Donald Sultan.

The hotel serves continental breakfast.

Hotel Rum

The hotel is an ideally located design hotel, perfect for those who are looking for a cozy, fun and vibrant hotel in the cultural downtown area of the city.

The rooftop bar is open every day from 12 PM until 11 PM. Hotel guests can enjoy their breakfast here every morning.

Corinthia Hotel was first opened in 1896 as Grand Hotel Royal. Ever since then, this hotel remained one of the biggest hotels in Budapest.

It blends together new and old, for example, an original 19th-century spa.

It has an indoor heated pool, steam bath, sauna, jacuzzi and spa treatments.

Entrance to the Royal Spa is available for a fee or from Deluxe room bookings for free.

Hotel Moments

This hotel is located on Andrássy street, a World Heritage site that has many luxury shops, beautiful architecture and you can find the Opera House here. The city center is also just a few minutes away.

The hotel has 99 tastefully decorated rooms in three categories, on-site sauna and fitness room, 24-hour free coffee, tea and mineral water in the Lounge bar. The buffet breakfast has a wide selection of delicacies.

Hotel Clark

Hotel Clark is a newly opened hotel that has a perfect location: it is situated right next to the Chain Bridge, on the Buda side. The station of the funicular and also bus no16 – that takes the passenger up to the Castle – are right in front of the building.

You can easily and quickly access downtown.

The hotel offers 86 rooms in four different categories (the biggest difference is the view). The rooms are quite tiny, though. The hotel is only for adults (18+)

The lobby area is exceptionally modern and beautiful.

Its restaurant offers really nice breakfast while Beefbar Budapest opened its doors in the hotel. It is the first Beefbar in the region and serves the best-quality meat peculiarities, with a matching price tag.

Leo Budapest bar on the rooftop terrace is open from spring to fall and gives an incredible sight. Table reservation is required due to the high demand.

Sofitel Chain Bridge

The Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge boasts spectacular views of the famous Chain Bridge and a prime location near the River Danube, Hungarian Parliament, Hungarian State Opera and the Castle in downtown.

This hotel is the top choice of all the celebrities coming to Budapest.

Aria Hotel Budapest

This beautiful Boutique Hotel right at the heart of Budapest belongs to the top 1% of all hotels in Budapest.

A note on my hotel recommendations

My recommendations are based on what I’d suggest to friends and family members with different budgets if they were coming to Budapest.

As someone who was born in Budapest and have been living here since then, I haven’t personally been to most of these hotels, so the recommendations are based on my knowledge of the city.

I made this list by searching for accommodations on booking sites that I use when I go abroad, such as Booking, Airbnb, Tripadvisor and HotelsCombined.

I checked the reviews of all properties and combined the opinions of the guests with my experiences in that area of the city.

I took into consideration every aspect I could: the accommodation itself and also its surrounding area. If a hotel is nice but the neighborhood is not safe, I do not recommend it.

I listed only those properties that I truly have a great opinion on.

Of course this list is not capable of listing all the good hotels in Budapest, the goal is to give you a guide and reference so you do not need to spend your time choosing an accommodation or finding a good neighborhood.
